LoVid

LoVid's interdisciplinary practice explores the often invisible or intangible dimensions of contemporary society, including communication systems and biological signals. Their work investigates the ways in which technology permeates and shapes the evolution of human culture.

Working across performance, participatory public art, handmade technologies, textiles, printmaking, App Art, experimental video, and immersive installations, LoVid brings together diverse media with physical objects, geographic spaces, and the human touch. Central to their practice is the dialogue between handmade engineering and traditional forms of art and craft, informed by a DIY philosophy and aesthetic. This approach enables the duo to reflect on the role of manual production and artistic gesture in an era increasingly defined by machines and virtual experiences.

Alongside these handcrafted processes, LoVid incorporates digital fabrication and machine-based production techniques, underscoring the critical importance of human–machine interaction in the digital age. Drawing on methodologies from art, science, and technology, their multidisciplinary practice questions perceptions of time, place, and identity within an increasingly networked world.

Founded in 2001 by Tali Hinkis and Kyle Lapidus, LoVid is a New York–based interdisciplinary artist duo working collaboratively across media. Their work has been exhibited and performed internationally at institutions and venues including Gazelli Art House, Picture Theory Gallery, Various/Artists Gallery, the Nantes Museum of Arts, the Buffalo AKG Museum, the Museum of the Moving Image, the Grand Rapids Museum, Art Blocks Curated, Postmasters Gallery, Honor Fraser Gallery, Klaus von Nichtssagend Gallery, Anthology Film Archives, MoMA, Issue Project Room, Science Gallery Dublin, The Jewish Museum, New York, the Daejeon Museum, Smack Mellon, the Butler Institute of American Art, and the New Museum.

LoVid's projects have received support from the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation, the Graham Foundation, Eyebeam, Harvestworks, Wave Farm, Rhizome, Franklin Furnace, the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA), the Lower Manhattan Cultural Center, the Experimental TV Center, the New York State Council on the Arts, and the Greenwall Foundation.

Their work is held in numerous public and private collections, including the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of the Moving Image, Le Random, the Parrish Art Museum, the Thoma Foundation, and the Heckscher Museum of Art.
