It is a truth almost universally acknowledged: humankind has single handedly decimated the natural world. Through deforestation or via industrial activities leading to the melting of the polar ice, we caused what some specialists are calling the sixth extinction. But while much of our attention has focused on big animals such as the polar bear, the disappearance of other less charming species has gone almost unnoticed. This is the case for insects who, according to entomologists, have seen a decline in numbers of 80% in their populations. The artistic duo comprised by Christa Sommerer & Laurent Mignonneau have been investigating the relationship between humans and insects; their new exhibition at Galerie Charlot ‘‘Buzz Buzz’’ acknowledges their importance in our ecosystems while underlining the existing connexions between humans and these small creatures. The artworks presented at the exhibition aim at shifting our perspectives upon insects and offer new ways of coexistence.
