Bénédicte Gerin creates stripped-back painting, evolved from the art of beautiful writing. Leaving behind the marked paths of calligraphy, she ignores codes and dimensions in a very personal journey where definitions are never to be taken literally. Word-lines, text-images transcend the frame: pushed to their strongest expression, they become rhythms, signs, traces, impulse… explosion! She draws acrylic and Indian ink, from the material of vibrant papers that form one body with the work, an expression of unprecedented power.
From her small formats, intense concentrated energy, to her large paintings, which she works "standing, leaning like a conductor on a score, with a broad, choreographed gesture ...", all her art passionately expresses movement.
