Born in 1974 in Grenoble (France), Jacques Perconte now lives and works in Paris.
Through his work, Perconte has constructed an artistic practice inextricably linked to digital methods. As nothing of the machine is foreign to him, he uses his comprehensive knowledge to provoke it, push it to its limits, free it from its shortcomings and create in accordance to its errors; From film to photography, from online creations to installations, Jacques Perconte produces vivid pictural digital material, questioning space, colour, landscape and society.
Even if he is recognized as one of the pioneers of French internet art, he is above all one of the very first to have worked on video by codecs (work on compression and decompression) and to have given digital technology a new pictorial dimension.
"After drawing I discovered painting, then video, computers and networks. I went through evening classes in Fine Arts, through the university, through the CNRS. Fine arts, cinema, philosophy, interactive design, information systems, innovation strategy... I plunged into digital technology in 1995."
Jacques Perconte is the founder of the Metamorph research group, a member of the international rhizome community since 1998, a founding member of L'Association Paradoxal, a founding member of the Ewmo collective, a member of the Pavu.com collective (2001), and a founding member of the first relocated French netart collective Lieudit.
